Foam roof restoration planning

A spray polyurethane foam roof assessment should distinguish coating wear from damage to the foam and other roof details. Restoration suitability depends on what the investigation finds.

Map the condition of the existing foam

Ask the assessor to identify exposed or damaged foam, previous repairs, surface coating condition and suspect wet areas. Do not assume that a new coating is enough for every defect. Retain area photographs and the basis for each proposed repair.

Separate repairs and recoating

A scope should identify material removal or foam repair where needed, treatment of penetrations and transitions, and a compatible protective system. GAF’s roofing manual treats spray polyurethane foam as a separate substrate with its own preparation guidance.

Plan future access

Record access routes and equipment service needs in the maintenance handoff. Review care after coating and roof inspection planning before agreeing to ongoing work.
